Mom tested Potty Training Tips:
Potty Training Tip #1: Before you begin potty training, assess your child to be sure that he/she is both physically and emotionally ready. Check these potty training guides to be sure:
Potty Training Tip #2: Never push your child to begin potty training until he/she is ready. Acting too aggressively can backfire and cause delays in potty training as well as frustration for both you and your child.
Potty Training Tip #3: Before you even begin potty training, make sure you stock up on some great potty training books and DVD's to get your toddler interested in potty training beforehand.
Potty Training Tip #4: Take your toddler to the store to help pick out their new big kid potty and big kid underwear. Getting your toddler involved is the first step towards getting them excited about potty training....and an excited toddler is a cooperative one!
Potty Training Tip #5: Consider buying a potty training doll to show your toddler exactly how it is done. Your toddler can then pretend to be the “teacher” and “teach” their new doll how to go on the potty. In doing so, they inevitably begin potty training themselves!!!!
Potty Training Tip #6: Consider beginning potty training in the warm summer months when your toddler can spend most of the day outside in fewer clothing. This will make it easier for them to pull on and off their clothes and it will contain the potty training messes to the backyard instead of your new carpet.
Potty Training Tip #7: Do not limit the amount of fluids you give your toddler once you begin potty training. Even though you may feel like it, in order to eliminate accidents, you may be setting them up for potty training problems like chronic constipation and bladder infections.
Potty Training Tip #8: Consider using a potty training progress sticker chart to chart your toddler's successes. Have your toddler place his/her favorite stickers on a chart every time they use the potty like a big kid.
Potty Training Tip #9: If you are potty training a little girl, always make sure you teach her to wipe from front to back. This keeps the bacteria out of her urethra and lessens her chances of developing a urinary tract infection.
Potty Training Tip #10: Consider throwing your toddler a potty training party complete with a cake and balloons when they master potty training. This encourages them to continue using the potty and commemorates this momentous milestone! Plus it rewards you BOTH for all your hard work
